Daring Red by L'Oreal Professional
"L'Oreal is into classic looks - this is an
updated version," says Terry Harrison, a
member of the L'Oreal World Color and Style
Council and owner of Salon St. Louis in South
Saint Louis, MO, of the look above.
Bobs are known for their uniform
length on all sides, so Harrison decided to take
another route in creating one. After taking
four inches off the model's shoulder-length hair,
he employed what he calls a "soft"
cutting technique that involved shaping the hair
into a bob with shears, but leaving longer layers
on the ends to create movement in the hair.
Next, Harrison added highlights with
L'Oreal's Pure Platine, a highlighting bleach,
followed by L'Oreal's High Resistance Red
465. He allowed the color to process for 35
minutes before rinsing the hair and shampooing
with Marjirel Optimizing Shampoo.
For the finish, Harrison blow-dried
the hair with a round brush and applied a
combination of Tecni-Pli Mousse and Tecni-Pli High
Gloss for shine and control. Last, he ran
his fingers through the hair to leave it a little
tousled and not too fixed. Photography by L'Oreal

A CUT ABOVE
Salon St. Louis ends the search for the perfect
haircut.
Tired of bad hair days
and styles that don't work? Whether you need
to fix a color catastrophe or just want a new
look, Salon St. Louis can solve all your hair dilemmas.
The salon offers in-depth consultation and an
analysis of facial features, hair-growth patterns
and styling needs before they ever cut a strand.
You may want Jennifer Aniston's
latest cut, but it may not work with your
features. "By looking at individual
facial features, it's possible to design a
hairstyle that is completely personal and creates
accent at the most flattering areas,"
explains salon owner Terry Harrison.
Our assistant art director Lisa
Moran's hair was overprocessed from perms and
constant color treatments, so we sent her to Salon
St. Louis in search of the prefect haircut.
"I wanted a cut that had style and body and
that would work with my lifestyle and hair
type. Instead of altering the structure of
my hair with perms, I wanted something that worked
with - not against - my hair."
Lisa began the appointment by filling
out a detailed questionnaire about her hair and
lifestyle, and then Harrison interviewed her at
length before they made a style decision
together. "I didn't really know what I
wanted - but I knew what I didn't want," says
Lisa. "We concluded that I needed to
have long hair or short hair because of my
convertible," she explains. "I
couldn't have hair flying around my face."
Next, Lisa headed to the shampoo
station and reeived a fabulous head massage with
Aveda oils. Then she received a paraffin
treatment for her hands - all of which is included
in the salon's standard cuts. Finally, a
French circle collar, a weighted pillow that helps
you relax, was placed around her neck.
"Terry had really gained my
trust by the time start to cut", says
Lisa. "The salon is really inviting and
the staff is very friendly. I wasn't nervous
at all; I was excited to get a new
hairstyle."
And she didn't bat an eye when he cut
nine inches off her chest-length hair. The
result: a sexy, unstructured Meg Ryan messy
look.
"I've never had short hair
before, but I really like it," says
Lisa. "It reflects my personality and I
can do so much more with it. My husband, Ed,
has always liked me with long hair, and I did this
without telling him. But he liked it
instantly when I came home. He says it's
more me."
As part of the hair care service,
Salon St. Louis offers crispings, where clients
can come back two to three weeks after the
original cut for a touch-up - a great perk with
short styles like Lisa's. Salon
St. louis (3012 S. Grand, 771-8820) is a
full-service hair salon that specializes in
custom-design cuts and coloring services.
The salon also offers facials and make-up
consultations.
